Groove-billed Ani
A scruffy-looking all-black cuckoo, the Groove-billed Ani has a tall flattened bill with narrow grooves. It feeds in flocks on the ground and in bushes flushing grasshoppers, beetles, spiders and lizards from hiding.
Look for them in cow pastures and coastal prairie on the west-end of Galveston Island.
