Island ETC is Galveston County’s only professional repertory theatre company and stages 5 to 6 productions a year. Although many in the company were here during the infant stages of what was then called the Strand Street Theatre in the 70’s, the organization has been operating as Island ETC (the east-end theatre company) since 2002. Their previous space was located on Postoffice Street at 20th, but Hurricane Ike devastated that location just as plans were being made to move in and take over the Strand Theatre. Through the generosity of local patrons, Island ETC re-opened in July 2009 with a re-staging of CABARET, the show that put them on the map as a company. The historic Strand Theatre building is a proud and beautifully restored survivor of the Storm of 1900 and Hurricane Ike.
