Galveston Island is one of the most lively towns on the Gulf Coast, including tons of festivals, events and more. To save you the hassle of having to dig around and find what to do to kick off Spring on #IslandTime, here's a list of events spanning from April to June:
24th Annual Grand Kids Festival
April 6, 2019
The 24th annual Grand Kids Festival will spring into action Saturday, April 6, 2019, from 10 am – 5 pm on Postoffice Street between 20th and 23rd Streets in Galveston’s historic downtown Cultural Arts District. Admission to the Festival, inflatables, pony rides and a variety of additional activities are FREE to the public.
Ironman 70.3 Texas
April 7, 2019
The 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 Texas will offer 40 qualifying slots to the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France. Athletes start with a 1.2-mile, one-loop saltwater swim, leading to a 56-mile one-loop bike course along the Texas Gulf Coast. The event continues with the 13.1-mile, four-loop run - fast and flat - running through Moody Gardens and along Offats Bayou.
17th Annual Featherfest & Nature Photofest
April 11-14, 2019
If you’re a serious or casual bird-watcher or nature photographer; an experienced or new outdoor enthusiast; or someone who wants some exercise, fresh air and sunshine and something different to do, you’ll want to join us at FeatherFest. There’s no need to be shy – the majority of our guests are not birding or nature photography experts!
Thousands of birds take wing to our island each spring during an arduous northward migration across the Gulf from Central and South America. And hundreds of tourists and neighbors follow suit to see more than 200 species of brightly-colored birds strut their stuff around our hometown – a prime location along the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail.
Bon Temp Rouler Cajun Throwdown
April 26-27, 2019
Are you ready to let the good times roll? Join us for the Bon Temps Rouler Cajun Throwdown, the hottest island event taking place April 26-27, 2019, featuring a crawfish cook-off, Cajun cuisine, awesome Louisiana Cajun music and a great family atmosphere. All the food, fun and music takes place at Tin Cups Caddyshack, 9020 Stewart Road in Galveston, Texas.
The action fires up on Friday night, April 26th, with a “Cajun Kick-Off Cook-Off” where teams will compete to cook the best Louisiana cuisine and serve up their fare and all-you-can-eat boiled shrimp to the public and a select panel of judges. Saturday begins the main competition throwdown where teams will serve the hottest, most kickin’ crawfish to the public and compete to be named top team, vying to take home the $5,000 grand prize. There’re more than just mudbugs though: don’t miss the Bloody Mary Throwdown, Crawfish Eating Throwdown, and Crawfish Racing Throwdown as well!
Galveston Island Wine Festival
April 26-27, 2019
The 10th annual Galveston Island Wine Festival returns with all your favorite events and new wines, April 26-27, 2019. Last year’s event included wines from 30 vineyards and this year the event expects to surpass those numbers. Pour into bliss this April and join in for a special springtime event with delectable wines and live musical entertainment by ROXY ROCA; it is sure to be the event of the year.
- Premium Wine Tasting: Friday, April 26th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Location: Saengerfest Park. The Premium Wine Tasting and Pairing returns this year for the true gourmand. Guests will enjoy premium wines from vineyards around the world.
- The Grand Tasting: Saturday, April 27th from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Location: Saengerfest Park. The Grand Tasting is the highlight of the festival. Patrons will embark on a tasting trip through vineyards from all around the world, enjoying approximately 100 wines. The fantastic live music and endless wine sampling in the park will complete this afternoon of indulgences.

Yaga’s Wild Game & BBQ Cook-Off

The 23rd Annual World Wild Game Championship and BBQ Cook-off, benefiting the Yagas Children’s Fund Inc., will be held Friday, May 10th and Saturday, May 11th at Pier 21 in beautiful Galveston, Texas. Everyone is invited to participate. The competition is an excellent way for backyard chefs, sportsmen and women, and outdoor enthusiasts to show off their culinary skills and enjoy some good old-fashioned fun, fellowship and food.
From the free children's area to the VIP Sponsor Party and everything in between, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy throughout the weekend.
Galveston Island Beach Revue

Based on Island events from summer seasons past like the Pageant of Pulchritude and Splash Day, the Galveston Island Beach Revue resurrected these favorite Island pastimes into a contemporary two-day, family-friendly event in 2009. The Revue continues to grow each year through events, contestant participation, and attendance and is officially the City of Galveston’s “Kickoff to Summer” event.
Jeep Go Topless Day

One Major Event in May you won’t want to miss…The Jeep Weekend on Bolivar Peninsula. A GIANT family and friends weekend. Thousands of Jeep-lovers meet-up with fellow "jeepers" for a relaxed weekend on the beachfront. Jeep lovers start rolling in Wednesday afternoon and Thursday to enjoy a few extra days on the Peninsula. Once Friday arrives, so do the numbers of Jeep Lovers sporting their version of the ultimate Jeep. Vacation Rentals and RV Parks are booked well in advance for this event!
