Pool and Darts
Your Guide to Bar Room Sports
Video arcade games like Frogger and Ms. Pac Man will come and go but the best way to settle a wager with a friend is by playing a few rounds of darts or rack up the old pool table for some 8-ball. As far as activities and things to do in a local pub go, you can’t lose if you visit any of the following quaint Galveston pubs. So, gather up your friends and head to one of these spots, then show everyone how good you are at playing a real sport!
Molly's Pub & Old Cellar Bar
‘Regulation’ darts is the game here and you can almost always find a worthy competitor. First-time visitors are surprised to find that Molly’s and The Old Cellar Bar are sister pubs connected at the hip. You can play darts at Molly’s and then take 10 steps to play pool at The Old Cellar Bar. Molly’s Pub, an authentic Irish pub serving over 60 draft beers from around the world, as well as offering a full-service bar, it is located on historic Postoffice Street, the heart of Galveston’s arts and entertainment district. Some question without Molly’s could there be a Postoffice Street without it?
Next door to Molly’s Pub is The Old Cellar Bar, your friendly grotto that entertains a lively game of pool on any given evening. This pool table is well cared for and there are plenty of good cue sticks, chalk and rosin available. The Old Cellar Bar is a full service bar but if you ask nicely you can get any of the 60 plus draft beers from Molly’s next door.
Beerfoot Brewery
On the Seawall and with a great view of the Gulf is Beerfoot Brewery featuring over 100 craft and mainstream beers, full bar, small brewery producing a Beer of the Month, and a beer enthusiast club appropriately named “Beer Nuts.” Beerfoot Brewery has a great pool table. Get some friends together and head on over to Beerfoot. You don’t have to be a nut to play pool here but it helps.

Albatross
Yes, by definition an Albatross could be a large web-footed seabird or a fantastic golf score but in this case it is an easygoing ultra-casual “five-star dive bar” located at at 815 21st street downtown. Albatross is a popular watering hole that caters to locals who need to wind down after a hard day’s work and many that come here are very good pool players. It’s not uncommon to see bicyclists arrive here with their own pool sticks, but don’t be intimidated, this is a very sociable oasis.
Albatross Notes:
Sundays is all-day free pool (no quarters needed).
Albatross has a pool league team. If you are interested in joining, ask the bartender.
Murphy's Pub
Murphy’s is located on 22nd just off The Strand in Galveston’s famous Historic Strand District and is a local’s favorite place to drink and play games. There are not too many ‘pool sharks’ here so don’t be afraid to show off your awkwardly competitive side. Murphy’s offer two pool tables. One upstairs and one downstairs. There is a trivia contest on Mondays and an open mic jam on Thursdays. Murphy’s is also equally famous for its homemade pizzas – including the mouth-watering “White Pizza” with garlic butter, spinach, and feta. Try it !
