Photo Manhattan and Galveston actually have a few things in common. Both are long narrow islands developed around natural deep water ports, with precious real estate divided into blocks of numbered streets and long avenues. But what do New Yorkers really think about our sand bar? Well one New York Times travel correspondent seems to love it.

Intent on uncovering the true taste of Galveston, New York Times travel reviewer Simon Romero discovered the secret joie de vie of this place, which has been slumbering through time in the metaphoric guise of Charles Dicken's Ms. Havershim and now seems to be suddenly awakened, if not actually transubstantiated, into a post-virginal Madonna (the one at Maverick records, not the one over at the Vatican). Mod features fine coffees, espresso, teas, smoothies, desserts, snacks, and red and white wines.

Voted Best Coffee year after year after year!

Barb8/5/2008 7:29:00 AMDont usually travel south 'cause heat & I dont get along, thus LOVE checking out this coffee house webcam. Looks inviting. Truly enjoy watching the people, but I see now the cam doesnt refresh as freqently. Hope one reason is not because of the person's comment about the man with his feet on the table. Might care only if I was there in person. Dont like what you see on a webcam, dont watch. :-) Should I get to Galveston however, I'll for sure visit the MOD!
FOXY7/15/2008 4:13:00 PMSpent the 4th of July on Galveston Island and visited MOD several times. Truly enjoyed the marvelous pastries and coffees. The employees are courteous and very friendly. The MOD was sooo festive for the 4th!!!!
Bobbie Johnson7/11/2008 2:05:00 PMI was looking on the galveston.com website and love to look at all the places--when I looked at the MOD pic, I saw a man sitting with his FEET on the table outside--Grossed me out! So I called long distance and told the man who answered the phone how very nasty that was and other people will be eating at that table. He thanked me and as I watched the screen, a waitress came out and asked the man to remove his feet from the table!! I thank the staff at MOD for understanding and taking care of that nasty problem so quickly. I will visit MOD next time I am in Galveston!
David Power6/3/2008 4:34:00 PMI always enjoy going to MOD. Their coffee is really the best, and the espresso brownies are a grand finale to any meal. The people that work there really try hard to make you feel appreciated. This place is a must for any Galveston experience.
Larry5/10/2008 6:29:00 PMAbsolutely the best coffee shop in the Houston/Galveston area PERIOD - not only for drinks, but atmosphere too. My wife and I frequently refer to Mod as our second home. Truly amazing staff that will make you want to return again and again.
