Photo Introducing the new Moody Gardens Golf Course, formerly Galveston Municipal Golf Course currently undergoing a $14 million comprehensive renovation. Renowned golf course architects Jacobsen Hardy Golf Course Design have created a design that keeps the best historical features of the layout while significantly improving certain holes and overall course flow.

The renovation includes new turf grass, green complexes, elevations, irrigation, drainage, cart paths, greens and a full clubhouse renovation. Many exciting new features and benefits are in store for the golf course and we look forward to your patronage in the years ahead.

A First-Class Public Course
The multi-million dollar investment is a contribution to the city on the part of Moody Gardens and the culmination of the vision to provide a first-class public golf course for local residents and visitors to the Island. The City of Galveston will retain ownership of the newly renovated facility, which will be managed by Moody Gardens.

A Design That Will Rival the State's Best Municipal Venues
Jacobsen Hardy Golf Course Design, a renowned firm drawing on the expertise of PGA Tour professionals Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, is already hard at work on the course redesign. The completely new par 72 course is scheduled to reopen in the summer of 2008. Once completed, the course is expected to rank as one of the best public courses in Texas and will rival three of the state’s best municipal venues, Memorial Park in Houston, Tenison Highlands in Dallas and Cottonwood Creek in Waco. Measuring 6,900 yards from the back tees, the golf course is designed to be player-friendly, with 5 sets of tees to accommodate all playing abilities.

A Seaside Course with a Tropical Feel
Jacobsen Hardy’s attention to detail will provide Galveston residents with a premiere public golf course and also add to Galveston’s many tourist attractions. Among the many improvements the course will feature Paspalum turf, designed for seaside golf courses and providing an outstanding playing surface.

To keep playing surfaces in the top condition, the project includes a new water treatment plant and irrigation system. This improvement in water quality will optimize playing surfaces and also provide water for landscaped areas around the clubhouse and on the golf course. The course will retain its seaside tropical feel with nearly 500 palm trees that have either been moved or added to the golf course. Coupled with selected use of upland and lowland “native areas” the golf course will dramatically improve its overall aesthetic look and feel.

New Amenities
In addition to a completely redesigned course, new amenities planned for the facility include a new, larger driving range, a new golf cart fleet, new maintenance equipment to optimize conditions and a newly remodeled clubhouse and pro shop, which will incorporate a catering kitchen and banquet facility to accommodate large groups for golf and non-golf events. Additional catering space for groups will be available outside the clubhouse area. The new grill at the clubhouse will offer an upgraded menu for the pleasure of golfers and non-golfers seeking to enjoy the incredible vistas from the clubhouse patio.

Upon its opening, guests will be afforded access to one of the Galveston-Houston area’s premiere golf courses and will be able to choose from a selection of customized stay and play packages designed to please even the most discriminating golf enthusiasts.

Robert Wells8/2/2008 9:47:00 AMBig increase in green fee, but course was excellent. Played 8/1/08 and the fairways were great. One big improvement is the grass. they planted grass that is made for the salt water and the air. Driving range is nice. The only problem I saw was the location of the range. It is in the middle of hole number one and four. I did not get hit by any balls, but can see were you can be a target while waiting to hit. The people working there are very nice and they have refreshment carts going around to make sure you are taken care of. All I can say is what a difference. The only bad thing is the green fees. $55 fee for mon-thru, and fri-sun is $75; these fees include cart, which are also brand new.
