Galveston's relaxed island atmosphere is only 50
minutes from Houston, it is a world away in spirit. At 32
miles long and two-and-a-half miles wide, the Island is
surrounded with incredible history and unique beauty.
Known as the Playground of the South, we hope you will
enjoy all Galveston has to offer - from beaches, to family
attractions, to historic architecture, outdoor adventure,
shopping, dining and cruising.
Galveston has the amenities of a larger city, but with tight-knit small town friendliness. Its ethnically diverse citizens have worked together to make their city better since the early days of its founding in 1836. When faced with adversity, Galvestonians unite to solve whatever obstacles may arise.
Non-profit organizations and community groups offer a variety of volunteer opportunities regardless of your interests or desired area of service. Additionally, more than 50 churches and two synagogues representing every major religious denomination are available in Galveston.
Rosenberg Library December Treasure of the Month During the month of December, Rosenberg Library will exhibit a collection of vintage Christmas cards which were sent or received by Galvestonians during the early 20th century. The cards were donated by Philip C. Tucker, Z.L. White, S. E. Morgan, and the Lindholm Family.
