| Seawall Stars: Part 1 When you hit the seawall to buy beach gear don’t settle for ordinary: it’s time for the next ‘big thing’. Did you know that “Salt Water Soul” logos are now visible on vehicle and t-shirts as close as an Island neighborhood; on a regular basis up 1-45 and in unexpected spots like Florida and Alaska?
| Galveston’s Yearly Foe Every year in Galveston, just after home tour ends, when the palm trees start beckoning folks from Houston and beyond down to the beaches to celebrate summer’s grand kick off with Memorial Day weekend; a yearly visitor show’s up at the most unwelcome time. The seaweed problem in Galveston is something you can set your calendar by - at the end of May when the south winds start blowing that warm gulf water our way, the seaweed floats in right with it.
| My, How Things Change Heard from friends who were onboard RCCL’s Voyager of the Seas a couple of weeks ago that the ship was a “construction zone” (that’s cruise-line speak for (“undergoing revitalization/enhancement”) LOL!
| Unsung Heroes Heard from a friend who works at one of the cruise terminals that four passengers were denied boarding today due to “improper documentation.” Apparently they did not read Lorraine’s diatribe on why one should possess a passport – SHAME!
| No Cruise – You Lose! Did you know that if you arrive at a port of embarkation without proper documentation – even though you have checked-in online (required by most lines no later than six days prior to sail-date) and have a valid cruise ticket, you can be denied boarding? And – don’t look for a refund!

| "Harvey" May 23rd "Harvey" is about Elwood P. Dowd, a goodnatured, mild-mannered eccentric who is known in all of the cafeterias and saloons in his small town. Elwood is polite and cheerful and always friendly toward any strangers he might encounter, and he has just one problematic character trait: his best friend is an invisible six-foot-tall rabbit, Harvey.

Sports & Outdoors |

While there is a lot to do in Galveston, it's also a place where it feels comfortable to do little. At 10.4 miles long, the seawall lining the Gulf of Mexico is the world's longest continuous sidewalk and attracts walkers, joggers, bicyclists, surfers, sunbathers, skaters and sightseers year-round. It's a great place to exercise or just sit to watch a flock of brown pelicans skim across the waves at sunset. |
