General Sidney Sherman Statue
7th Street and BroadwayGalveston, TX 77550
Sculpted by Getano Cecere in 1938, the bronze statue of General Sherman, hero of the Texas War of Independence from Mexico, commemorates the centennial of that victory. Immediately behind stands Pierre Bourdelle's 12-foot grantie monolith, bearing an intaglio image of the general on horseback raising his saber at the Battle of San Jacinto to cry, "Remember the Alamo: Remember Goliad!"
