Tree Sculpture: “Crane, Pelican Diving into a School of Fish”2020-01-24T13:56:59-06:00

"Crane, Pelican Diving into a School of Fish"

20 South Shore Drive, Galveston, TX (Directions)

"Crane, Pelican Diving into a School of Fish" is one of the many tree sculptures carved after Hurricane Ike destroyed thousands of trees on the island.

Although the bulk of the tree sculptures are located within the East End Historic District, the trend has become so popular that you can now find them throughout the island. This is an example of a sculpture that is located off the beaten path of the traditional tour.

James Phillips

Artist

James D. Phillips has carved trees at residences all over Texas. His art can also be seen in front yards and on the grounds of public buildings all over Galveston Island. Some highlights of James’ include “The Wizard of Oz,” “Geisha,” “Pelican Diving into a School of Fish,” and “Fireplug” at City Hall.
