Humans of Galveston: The Island is Jodie's Home Away From Home

Updated 29 days ago

Jodie shared her family’s excitement about the Carnival cruise her husband and son were about to depart on, even though she wasn’t on the ship. Instead, she stood dockside at Pier 21 with her red umbrella, waiting for a chance to wave at them. The security coordinator for a Houston company took a minute to chat with Humans of Galveston. Here’s what she had to say:

HG: How do you define happiness?

Jodie: It sounds easy, but that’s pretty tough. Happiness is very individualistic. I mean, for me happiness is just being in the best body that I can be in, and by being at peace spiritually. It’s not so much about what I have, but about who I’m with and just living the fullest life that I can.

HG: On a 1 to 10 scale, with 10 being the best, how happy are you right now?

Jodie: Ten. I’m blessed.

HG: Where are your husband and son going on their Carnival cruise?

Jodie: They’re heading to Cozumel.

HG: What do you hope that happens on of the cruise?

Jodie: I’m hoping they make a lot of great memories, and that they get closer as a father and son.

HG: What are your thoughts Galveston?

Jodie: I love Galveston. We live in a little duplex down here right now temporarily. I’ve been coming here my whole life, since I was a kid. I’ve run nearly every inch of it, and it’s just a great place to come down south, have some good food, listen to some music and meet some good people.
