On May 23, 2018, Captain Paul Stanton of Aqua Safari Charters reported:
We made several offshore trips this past week and a half day bay jetty trip.
On the nicer weather days we ran up to 30 nautical miles offshore from the jetties, and on the rougher days, we fished 12 to 21 miles out.
Kingfish seem to be everywhere for us (rigs, rocks, wrecks, & buoys) - good size fish, some up to 40 pounds.
Ling is running 40-50 lbs. on structure. A lot of bait fish up current on most structure.
Catching a variety of sharks: spinner, blacktip, blacknose, Atlantic sharpnose, bonnethead and hammerhead (largest 7 1/2 feet).
Also catching bull redfish (release only in federal waters) and red snapper up to 15 lbs. (release only to federal season opens June 1).
Primarily using Spanish sardines for bait, also cut bait for larger sharks, ling caught on diving plugs.
Getting kingfish by bump trolling sardines and drift lines.
Gulf waters were clear beyond 6 miles from jetties last trip, water more green than blue.
Wishing you calm seas and tight lines.
