Meet Austin, who moved back to Galveston in October 2017 from Fort Worth. He’s in no hurry to leave since he’s found his Strand family of friends – in his words, his “Strandly.” Here’s what he had to say:
Austin, tell me your life story in a few paragraphs.
“I was born in Fort Worth, Texas. I’ve been moving around for a while. I’ve been back and forth from the East Texas-Arlington area all my life. I’ve been out on my own since I was 17, and I’m 21 now, and just been making my way, traveling and going to wherever I gotta get to, wherever is next for me. It happens to be Galveston now, and I’m loving it.
“I’ve been out of school for a while. I’ve been working pretty much all my life, doing the working man thing, you know? I’ve learned a lot," Austin said. "I’ve had a lot of experiences and had a lot of fun, and I can’t wait because there’s more in Galveston."
“This place is full of experiences and full of awesome people, and that’s what I’m all about, is meeting new people and making new friends. And that’s pretty much my whole story – meet new people, make new friends, make new family everywhere I go. That’s just what I do, and I love it very much."
“Life gets crazy and it’s very hellacious and it’s a little tricky, but it’s worth it at the end of the day. I keep a smile on my face and it’s all that matters, right?
“Galveston is absolutely crazy, but the original Galvestonians and the people who have lived here for more than a couple of years are awesome people. I’ve worked on The Strand and I’ve become a part of the 'Strandly' – the Strand family. It’s pretty far out, and it’s been great. I love it here.”
