When it comes to Restaurant Week, Galveston has quite an advantage with its fresh seafood - it's literally all around us! Schools of red snapper cluster in the warm Gulf waters, plump oysters nestle in protected sea beds, crabs scuttle in shallow pools close to shore. And Galveston's restaurants welcome all these and more with fresh deliveries coming into their kitchens straight from fishermen's boats - one right after another.
Galveston's signature culinary mainstay promises to delight the senses this Restaurant Week, and with so many restaurants to choose? You don't have a moment to lose!
Benno's on the Beach
This longtime island staple is a veritable seafood smorgasbord, offering everything from Cajun-style blue crab and you-peel-’em shrimp to deep fried platters of catfish, crawfish and oysters. Fans also go gaga for the gumbo, stuffed with shrimp, sausage and okra. Despite its beachfront location on the Seawall, Benno’s has been a beloved local spot for over 30 years thanks to ultra-fresh seafood and ultra-low prices that go hand-in-hand with its casual, counter-service atmosphere. This Restaurant Week, don't miss Benno's excellent $25 dinner menu, where you'll enjoy 3 courses of deliciousness!
One of the newer restaurants along the Seawall, BLVD. specializes in New American–style seafood. This means you’ll find Hawaiian tuna poke bowls, Mexican shrimp-and-crab campechana and Lowcountry shrimp and grits alongside traditional preparations of pecancrusted Gulf grouper and old-school oysters on the half-shell. BLVD is fastidious about sourcing its food from local purveyors, including Katie’s Seafood Market and Galveston Shrimp Company; even its spices come from nearby Maceo Spice and Import Co.
For Restaurant Week, BLVD. is offering a less-is-definitely-way-more $15 lunch menu offering choices of sliders or tacos served with gumbo, chowder, or house salad. For dinner, their $25 3-course menu sings with an appetizer starter of Salmon Crostini or Oysters Rockefeller; followed with your choice of Grilled Redfish, Shrimp & Grits, or 3-Pepper Chicken. Save room for the legendary Bread Pudding!
Gaido's Famous Seafood Restaurant
For well over a century, tourists and locals alike have flocked to Gaido’s, the stylish Seawall restaurant that’s become synonymous with Galveston Island. Though parts of the dining room remain almost untouched—including Gaido’s famous crystala Pan Roastedcollection, housed in elegant cases in the dining room—the menu has been updated over the years; look to the Daily Catch portion of the menu for everything from sautéed golden tilefish to blackened yellowfin tuna. Still, classic dishes such as the Brooks gumbo, named for former longtime chef Charles Brooks, are unchanged, and rightly so: the rich brown roux, an homage to Brooks’s Louisiana roots, remains perfect in execution.
And for Restaurant Week, they certainly don't disappoint! The 3-course $35 dinner menu plays like a "Greatest Hits" collection, featuring their famed Watkin's Bisque as a starter, followed with your choice of an Assorted Baked Oyster Platter, their dazzling Shrimp Peques, or - our personal favorite? - Snapper Michael. Your visit will conclude with their mesmerizing Cheesecake adorned with housemade berry sauce and whipped cream.
Galvez Bar & Grill
Galvez Bar & Grill is Hotel Galvez's own onsite casual seafood restaurant, serving Lone Star State specials and freshly caught Gulf Coast seafood in a gorgeous space with soaring ceilings, natural light and oversized windows to soak it all in.
You won't wanna miss their wonderful $15 Restaurant Week lunch menu, where their garden-fresh House Salad is the perfect complement to one of their Texas-Size Fish Filet or Shrimp Po-Boys. And when the sun goes down and the tide goes out? Head back over for dinner! For only $35, you'll enjoy their Market Fish Special featuring fresh fish caught today, cleaned today, and cooked today - prepared grilled, broiled, or blackenend - highlighted with specialty toppings like fresh fruit relish, sauteed scampi style shrimp, avocado pico, or lump crab in white wine sauce. But save room - the bread pudding is divinity on a plate!
Nick's Kitchen & Beach Bar
Nick's is "the reel deal," serving up some of the freshest seafood, juiciest burgers and fattest po'boys on Galveston Island! And with a crazy-big beer selection, delectable ingredients, live music and an ideal seaside location, you’ll want to take the bait and get hooked! And absolutely do, 'cause between their $10 Restaurant Week lunch offerings (with choice of Fried Shrimp, Blackened Salmon Salad, or the "Cardiac Arrest" Burger!) and their 3-course $35 Dinner (with choice of Shrimp Pegues, Pasta Gaido, or Tequila Lime Tilapia)? You will have experienced some of the Island's very best.
Nonno Tony's Seafood Kitchen
Galveston Restaurant Group presents Nonno Tony's Seafood Kitchen, offering Italian, Asian fusion, seafood, Creole, and traditional American fare. The open-style kitchen features a steam kettle bar and brick ovens. For Restaurant Week, Nonno Tony's is offering a $10 3-course Lunch Menu Monday thru Friday, with favorites including Chicken Parmesan, Shrimp & Lobster Tacos, and Daily Fish Specials. And weeknights? Enjoy their $25 Dinner Menu, featuring either Chicken or Eggplant Parmesan, Shrimp Fettucini Alfredo, and a Daily Redfish Special!
Few restaurants deliver the quality, atmosphere and personal attention that Saltwater Grill serves up daily. Featuring incredible gourmet cuisine in a quaint, elegant-yet-exciting atmosphere, Saltwater Grill is conveniently located in the heart of bustling downtown Galveston Island directly across the street from the Opera House.
This Restaurant Week, the 2016 Restaurant of the Year offers a $12 Lunch Menu on weekdays, featuring Lobster & Shrimp Tacos, Grilled Chicken Pasta, Sweet Potato Crusted Catfish, and a Daily Fish Special. The nightly $25 Dinner Menu features favorites like Texas Redfish Pontchartrain, Almond Coconut Crusted Gulf Shrimp, a Fire Grilled Chicken Breast, and a Chef's Select Daily Fish Special. (Note: Cast your vote for 2017 Restaurant of the Year by clicking here.)
The whimsical menu at Waterman’s boasts some of the island’s best appetizers in their famous Shrimp Kisses: jalapeño-and-cheese-stuffed Gulf shrimp, wrapped in bacon, deep-fried and served with ranch dressing—the Texas way. Waterman’s cornmeal-battered fried oysters, topped with pico de gallo and lemon butter, are also not to be missed. For something lighter, look to the fresh grilled redfish, a Texas Gulf delicacy best enjoyed while taking in Waterman’s scenic view across Galveston Bay.
For Restaurant Week, Waterman's is featuring an all-day Lunch & Dinner menu for $25, offering an array of options from chicken to shrimp, from salmon to burgers. Enjoy!
