"This year's Magellan Award winners have once again impressed the judges with their creativity and sense of style," said Arnie Weissmann, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly. He added, "The recipients of the Magellans truly represent the best of the industry, and their accomplishments are inspiring."
The Magellan Awards are judged and overseen by a one-of-a-kind panel of top travel professionals representing the best names and most accomplished leaders from the industry. The judging panel for Travel Weekly Magellan Awards included: Peter Greenberg, Travel Editor for The Early Show - CBS News; Patricia Schultz, author of 1,000 Places to See Before You Die; Marc Mancini, president of Marc Mancini Seminars and Consulting; travel blogger Johnny Jet; Rudy Maxa, PBS Host of Rudy Maxa's World; Lalia Rach,Professor/Founding Dean, NYU Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management; Burt Wolf, Internationally-Syndicated Television Journalist; and Bruce Beckham, executive director and CEO of Tourism Cares.
In determining winners, entries do not compete with one another, instead they are judged against a standard of excellence based on the long experience of Travel Weekly. To uphold this high standard of excellence, a category may have multiple winners, or may have no winners at all. Entries are evaluated on a ten point performance scale. The highest scoring entries will be selected as winners of Gold Magellan Awards, the very top honor. Other outstanding entries were awarded the Silver Magellan Award.
"All of us at Galveston.com & Company are thrilled to be honored with this win," said Jim Cordell, Vice-President . "I think to be mentioned in the same paragraph marketing-wise with this list of winners is a designation we at Galveston.com & Company find truly humbling. We greatly appreciate this recognition by such a reputable organization as Travel Weekly."
