Beautify the Bucket Competition Returns

Updated 28 days ago

Artist Boat is hosting its 5th Beautify the Bucket Competition this spring. Individual, groups, and families can claim and paint a trash barrel destined for Galveston Beaches. Painted barrels will add to the beautification efforts all along Galveston beaches and will encourage the proper disposal of trash on Galveston beaches so trash goes “in the can not the sand”.

Painted barrels will highlight the themes of the competition: ocean organisms, marine debris, coastal and marine ecosystems, and Galveston Recreational Activities. Participants can register for the competition between February 18th and March 18th, 2019. Barrels will be displayed and judged on Saturday, April 13th  from 8am-12pm at Menard Park. The event will coincide with the spring Adopt-A-Beach Coastal wide Cleanup.

Since 2016, Artist Boat’s Volunteer Artists have beautified over 200 barrels that can be viewed along Galveston beaches and the Seawall. Artist Boat hopes to continue hosting the competitions annually in the spring and fall to add to Galveston’s public artwork and raise awareness of the harm caused by aquatic trash. The Beautify the Bucket Competition is made possible thanks to the support of the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees.

Spaces are limited, so register today and make your mark on Galveston’s beaches. Visit https://www.artistboat.org/beautify-the-bucket/ to download the registration packet. To learn more call (409) 770-0722 or email executiveassistant@artistboat.org.
