Artist Boat's Summer ECO Camps & Eco-Art Camps
Art meets science in Artist Boat’s 2023 Summer camp sessions. Campers will experience true science and art enrichment with the creation of Eco-Art and exploration of Artist Boat’s Coastal Heritage Preserve during the Eco-Art Camps while campers will experience true science enrichment with outdoor adventures and activities during the ECO Camps.

Eco-Art Camps
Art meets science in Artist Boat’s 2023 Summer Eco-Art camp sessions! Campers will experience true science and art enrichment with the creation of Eco-Art and exploration of Artist Boat’s Coastal Heritage Preserve. Each camper will create high quality art projects and explore like a young naturalist. Each day is a different theme. Come for one or come for all!
- Sessions limited to 12 campers ages 5-10 years old
- Camp sessions are $375 for a week-long session, 9am to 4pm

SUMMER ECO-ART CAMP DATES

May 29 – June 2: Whale of a Time
We whaley hope your kids will join us to discover new things about the gentle giants of the Gulf of Mexico. Campers will create an acrylic painting on canvas, an ink monoprinting, and build a whale tail out of clay!
There are so many bright colorful blooms to discover on land and sea! Students will learn about flowers on the prairie, corals in the ocean and make colorful, blooming projects of their own!
June 12 – 16: Keep Our Seas Plastic Free
Marine Debris is one of the biggest problems our world’s oceans are facing today! Students will beautify a bucket for Galveston beaches and participate in a marine debris art contest.
June 19 – 23: Big Birding Adventure
Marine Debris is one of the biggest problems our world’s oceans are facing today! Students will beautify a bucket for Galveston beaches and participate in a marine debris art contest.
June 26 – 30: Fun Fishing Adventure
Spend the week fishing with us! We will learn different fishing techniques like how to seine, throw a cast net, and go crabbing! Students will also learn the ancient art of fish printing and dissecting a perch.
July 3 – 7: Paint Like Van Gogh
Van Gogh is famous for his plein air landscape paintings. Students will get to learn more about the famous artist, and experience the joys of painting landscapes outdoors and making nature journals.
They may be small, but they are mighty fun. That’s right, we love learning about the bugs on the prairie! We will spend the week catching these creatures and learning about why they are so important. Students will bring home a bug house and bug sculpture of their very own!

Bring your children to have a turtley awesome time learning about the life of the turtles in the Gulf of Mexico. Campers get to sculpt a clay coral reef, create a tissue paper turtle shell mosaic, and build a jellyfish in a bottle!
July 31 – August 4: Under the Microscope
Come learn about the unique microscopic world just beneath our nose! Campers will get hands-on experience using microscopes and learning the different functions, as well as get the chance to create their very own clay plant or animal cell.
August 7 – August 11: Gulf of Mexico Mania
There are so many fun creatures to learn about that live in the Gulf of Mexico. Sharks and whales, jellyfish, and turtles, and so much more! Students will learn all about the creatures of the Gulf and bring home a painted portrait of a native species.

ECO Camp
Kids will explore, create, and observe with Artist Boat’s ECO-Camp! They will be spending all 7 hours of camp outside daily, so they should be prepared for multiple field experiences that include kayaking, nature walking, swimming, and fishing. Attire that is appropriate and protects their skin from the sun should be worn.

Explore!
Explore the wetland environment around Galveston Bay in a human-powered vessel and on nature walks! Learn to kayak with American Canoe Association’s QuickStart Skills: rescue skills, how to handle the weather, trip planning, and more. Learn how to seine and practice different fishing techniques such as cast netting and crabbing.
Create!
Learn hand-building in clay, watercolor painting, sketching, acrylic painting, and crafting with natural objects found in nature. Every camper will walk away with a clay sculpture, canvas painting, fish print art, and a nature journal at the end of the week.
Observe!
Study the fascinating native creatures through wildlife talks, skull studies, bug hunts, microscopes, and oyster and sea star dissections!

Artist Boat
Artist Boat is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to promoting awareness and preservation of the coastal margins and marine environment through the disciplines of the sciences and the arts. Artist Boat’s Coastal Heritage Preserve currently encompasses a 810 acre conservation area on West Galveston Island. Artist Boat’s goal is to preserve and restore 1,400 contiguous acres from beach to bay. The conservation area is one of the largest unfragmented, single-owner, undeveloped properties of its kind on Galveston Island.
