The Grand 1894 Opera House is one of the few remaining theatres of its era in Texas and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. As further recognition of its importance to the citizens of Texas, in 1993 the 73rd Texas Legislature proclaimed The Grand "The Official Opera House of Texas."

Meet up at H2O, the sleek new ultra modern ultra lounge at The San Luis Hotel. Adjacent to the pool and spa, H2o offers a unique outdoor setting with contemporary seating areas for your relaxation, a fire pit to set the mood, high-definition televisions and upbeat sounds.

Although freshly-caught seafood is a resounding favorite on the Island, area menus offer tastes from around the world, ranging from well-known Cajun favorites to Tuscan secret recipes. You'll find succulent steaks, juicy chicken dishes, and plenty of vegetarian options from which to choose. In fact, when it's time to dine there are more than 100 restaurants to choose from.

Galveston's visual and performing arts culture continues to thrive as visitors browse through art galleries during the day before heading out at night to catch their favorite musicals in the heart of Historic Galveston Island.

Postoffice Street Arts & Entertainment District is nestled in the famous Strand National Historic Landmark District, only three short blocks from The Strand. This district is home to quaint galleries that feature various types of art from local, national and internationally recognized artists.

Every six weeks, the art galleries welcome Island visitors and Galvestonians alike into their galleries for ArtWalk; an event that provides visitors with wine and cheese while leading them through the historic streets and into boutiques and galleries.

The Grand 1894 Opera House is a year-round performing arts theater that has been restored to its original grandeur. This jewel of a Victorian-era theater (the “Official Opera House of Texas,” by the Texas legislature) is Galveston’s premier cultural venue for national-caliber performances. From stage performances to historical films to art exhibits, there’s a multitude of entertainment and inspiration to experience. In its early days the Grand stage hosted stars like Paderewski and Anna Pavlova; now it brings national shows and celebrities like Bill Cosby, Willie Nelson, Paul Anka, musicals like Cabaret and Rent, and a full season of dance, dramas, musicals and opera.

Island etc (east-end theater company) strives to present innovative and cutting-edge
productions by both known and new playwrights. Along with their unique offerings, they also produce popular favorites.

From Broadway to dance to visual arts, Galveston Island is a art-lover's paradise.
