Galveston.com Review The sign out front of Tortuga’s says “Best Food in Town” so we decided to accept that challenge. We arrived to find the parking lot full of cars. And full of great cooking aromas, which led us right inside. It was quite busy for a weeknight but we were seated promptly.
We have heard they have great margaritas, so we ordered one frozen and one on the rocks. They seemed a bit weak so when we re-ordered we asked for a little extra tequila, which seemed to do the trick. We accompanied those with a small appetizer of fajita quesadillas. The ample dish consisted of two tortillas stuffed with grilled chicken and Monterey Jack cheese, with guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo on the side. The chicken was unremarkable and not overly warm, but the quesadilla was good overall.
We were feeling in a “chicken” mood. My companion ordered the Cancun Chicken, which was grilled chicken breast topped with sautéed avocado, pico de gallo, and Monterey Jack cheese sauce. Mexican rice and borracho beans came alongside. He found the dish delicious and enjoyed the toppings. I ordered chicken fajita enchiladas topped with chile con queso, all quite tasty. The Mexican rice and refried beans were also very good.
Servers were attentive and willing to make substitutions when we asked. The atmosphere was lively, casual and family-friendly. I’m not sure I agree with the sign out front, but it’s a good place for a decent Tex-Mex meal at an affordable price. |
