Strand Theatre
2317 Mechanic
Galveston, TX77550
Phone: (409)763-4591

The Strand Theatre is a not for profit corporation chartered in the State of Texas in 1978. The Strand Theatre, then "The Strand Street Theatre," began producing theatrical productions in 1977. In May 1978, the organization moved to it's present location at 2317 Ship's Mechanic Row. In January 1982, through a generous grant from the Moody Foundation, the property was purchased as a permanent home for the theatre in the midst of Galveston's newly revitalized Strand Historic District.

The facility, housed in the 1871 Opperman building, completed a major renovation in 1993 to create a technically advanced yet historically appealing property. Mr. & Mrs. George P. Mitchell, developers of the Tremont House and other historic Strand District properties, have provided major assistance in both renovation funding and operating contributions.

All trolleys stop in front of the theatre; covered parking is available at the nearby Moody Parking Garage at 24th and Harborside.

Theatre concessions, beer, and wine are available with the show; mixed beverages are available at Fitzpatrick's, the handsome Irish pub next door.

To be added to mailing list for announcements on a wide variety of entertainment and special events year round, call the theatre at (409)763-4591.
