Galveston.com and Second Life: Your World. Your Imagination.

Second Life is a virtual world. No, Second Life is a 3D online digital world imagined, created and owned by its resdients. But hang on, there's more: critical authorities have defined Second Life as a metaverse - dig that? Everyone on the same page? All the statements above are true. Second Life is basically anything you want it to be. It's your virtual life, after all, and what you do with it is up to you.

Second Life is a virtual environment in which almost all of the content is created by users - people like you. You are the one who determines what Second Life means to you. Do you enjoy meeting people online, talking to them and doing things together in real time? Welcome to Virtual Galveston Island in Second Life! Do you enjoy running a business and making money? Welcome to Virtual Galveston Island in Second Life! The list of possible Second Life activities is as long as you can imagine.

So, you may ask. Why have a Virtual Galveston Island in Second Life after all? The answer is quite simple. We've decided to introduce Galveston Island to an entirely new audience, in an entirely new way, using entirely new tools.

For example, reading about Galveston Island Arts & Entertainment is far easier on Galveston.com than it is in a 3D online world. But imagine being able to click and read about The Grand 1894 Opera House, and get launched into a 3D recreation of the location where the story takes place, where you could walk around and discuss the venue, its history, and its coming shows with other readers who happen to be there at the same time.

Instead of replacing the web, Second Life holds vast potential to enhance it. Although the web may never transform itself completely into something akin to Second Life, it's quite likely that 3D spaces will become an integral part of the online experience in the very near future, for a very large number of people.

And as the first Convention & Visitors Bureau website in the entire world to embrace this glorious new world, we invite you to experience this journey with us.

This new section of our website is an ever-changing, ever-growing effort to introduce new people to our virtual home. Here, we'll discuss the design process through our blog, list Second Life Galveston events, and share with you what others are saying about our introduction to this brave new world.
