Photo A comfy eatery on the Island's west end, Seaside Bistro specializes in an array of delicious seafood, American, and even German! fare that's sure to please.

For chicken lovers, there's everything from chicken parmigiana to cordon bleu. For beef eaters? You can't go wrong with the cooked-to-perfection ribeye or the steak barcelona topped with shrimp and artichoke hearts with a lemon butter caper sauce.

Seafood ranges from various versions of tilapia and shrimp, to the divine crab, shrimp and scallop mornay. Of course, the menu really begins to sing with the array of house specialties with a German slant, including schlachtplatte (a feast of bratwurst, knackwurst, wienerwurst, and pork roast), schnitzel (chicken or pork scallopini), and jäegerschnitzel (chicken or pork in a mushroom cream sauce, served with spatzle).

Seaside Bistro also offers an excellent selection of sandwiches, a children's menu, garden-fresh salads and mouth-watering appetizers, as well as a dreamy variety of breakfast and brunch options.

Catering available. Available for private meetings.

Galveston.com Review
It was a chilly and foggy night.....when we ventured out west to this local favorite. We migrated toward the indoor seating rather than the patio. We arrived early for dinner and the place filled up within a few minutes, always an indicator of a good place to dine—so reservations could be a good idea, particularly on weekends. We found the atmosphere lively and casual, very “island” in decor. Our only recommendation for improvement would be to switch off the TV.

For starters we ordered the Seafood Appetizer plate, a combination of stuffed jalapeños, calamari, and shrimp, breaded and fried but not greasy. The “Crab Fingers” mentioned on the menu were missing from our platter. Jalapeños were tasty and picante, stuffed with crab meat. Shrimp were big and fresh and cooked to perfection, and calamari were tender. A warning: this could make a meal in itself! The beautifully-presented salad was gargantuan, with tasty homemade dressing choices. Meatball soup du jour was every bit as good as the waitress told us. It was delicately spiced and easy on the salt.

Our biggest challenge was choosing from the extensive menu. I decided on the Steak Gorgonzola, a rib eye stuffed with crab meat. Although the dish could have been served warmer, the meat was tender and tasty, Gorgonzola cream sauce was delicious, and rich crab meat stuffing was a creative addition. My companion selected the Chef’s special Shrimp Vera Cruz. Big juicy shrimp luxuriated in a flavorful mix of peppers, olives, tomatoes and onions. The entree actually tasted more Mediterranean than Mexican, but the combination of ingredients was very pleasing to the palate. Our vegetable selections were seasoned rice and German fries (these well-seasoned and lightly sautéed). Tender-crisp squash completed the meal.

We couldn’t leave without sampling the Bread Pudding with rum sauce. It came perfectly hot, juicy, buttery and sweet, a fine ending to a great meal.

We are not surprised that this restaurant is so popular with locals and out-of-towners alike. Service was attentive but not intrusive and we enjoyed a leisurely meal with no feeling of being rushed. We’ll be back in warmer weather to enjoy the outdoor dining room.

George8/19/2008 9:29:00 PMWe found it online and decided to give it a try, after getting there we were a little worried by the outside appearance but decided to try it out. It was so good. I had the Shrimp po' boy with german fries, and my friend had the broiled chicken sandwich. Both were huge and very cheap for the amount of food, it was amazing. My only negative is that the service was very slow, the food made up for it though. I will definitely be back again.
laura8/8/2008 11:06:00 AMwe called from the yacht basin at 815PM. It wasa Thursday. Asked when lasttable served. The Lady said 845PM. Her words. "Come on" you will make it. At 840PM walked up to door with hubby, another couple got declined also. She said her clock said 845PM Sorry!! Evidentally she was hired help, i can not see owner turning 4 hungry folks (prob 100-125 dollars) and a great tip prb (20-30$) for her. I will have to rethink going back.
spiney8/5/2008 1:30:00 PMThis place is well worth the drive to the west end. A very large menu with lots of German and seafood available. I had Calamari, shrimp, and seafood bisque and it was all perfect.
Neta6/2/2008 9:45:00 PMSeaside Bistro was such a pleasant surprise. We went there because we had seen it listed on Galveston.com & thought we'd try it out. We absolutely loved it. Both of us got steaks- perfectly cooked. They came with salads- extremely fresh greens & veggies with a wonderful house dressing. Our steaks were also accompanied by German fries and sauteed zucchini strips. We splurged and got their bread pudding- some of the best we'd ever had. Service was good too - our waitress was friendly & attentive. All the diners there seemed to be having a great time, enjoying their meals and the ambience. We can't wait to get back down to Galveston again and head to Seaside Bistro!
