Galveston.com Review

Saturday nights are busy at Saltwater, but they had a table for us despite our failure to call ahead. Our wine choice was a delicious Pinot Noir from their "finest and most affordable wine list", which seems to be as they claim. Our appetizer was the unique Shallow Fried Asparagus with lump crabmeat. What a great combination! The asparagus was succulent in its light breading, and the crabmeat was plentiful and perfect. Not to mention that along with that they serve the best fresh focaccia bread. Proceed with caution, however, as the bread is good enough that you can overeat before the entrée arrives!

For entrée my companion selected the special: Blackened Redfish with grilled shrimp in vodka tomato cream sauce, with mixed vegetables and sun dried tomato mashed potatoes. The redfish was fresh as can be, the shrimp amazing, and the sauce a perfect accompaniment. I usually don't enjoy the spiciness of blackened foods but my taste of this found it to be something I would order for myself, given another chance. True fans of blackened foods might want a bit more bite. Vegetables were a mélange of sautéed broccoli, squash and carrot and were flawlessly tender.

I ordered Penne Del Sol with sun dried tomato, fresh basil and toasted pine nuts tossed with roasted garlic and olive oil, and grilled shrimp. (I can't pass up anything with pine nuts.) This was so excellent, with big juicy shrimp, that I wasn't even jealous of my friend's fine dinner. Servings of both entrées were generous but not overly large.

We finished up with their special Hot Chocolate Truffle Cake, which takes awhile to prepare (the waiter forgot to remind us of that, but it is mentioned on the menu). It came out hot, filled with molten chocolate and topped with strawberries, and was so incredible we didn't care that we'd waited.

Prices are reasonable, service good, and food delectable. Just writing about this meal makes me want to go back!
