Galveston.com Review I had a hankering for some vegetables, and thus decided to give Broadway's Pho 20 a visit. We arrived at dinner time on a weekday evening so the place was not crowded. The dining room is not overly large, but it is tidy and attractively appointed with various posters of Southeast Asian sites, and other far-eastern embellishments. We ordered green tea while perusing the menu. We also requested an order of shrimp spring rolls to manage our appetites. They were brought out quickly and were fabulous. Fresh ingredients and with perfect peanut sauce. These are steamed, not fried, and wrapped in tender rice paper.
The menu is extensive with a variety of meat-and seafood-based items as well as many vegetarian dishes. For a variety of proteins I ordered "Vermicelli with Char-grilled Shrimp, Beef and Chicken". My wait was not long; I was still munching on my shrimp roll anyway. The generously-portioned plate was a colorful visual feast. Meat and shrimp toppings were arranged over a mound of rice noodles, with a bed greens underneath and fish sauce as condiment. On the side were shredded carrots, fried onion bits, peanuts, cucumber, and fresh bean sprouts. Shrimp was very fresh and perfectly done on a skewer; and beef crispy and a bit spicy. The chicken was tender but minimally seasoned. Overall it was a delicious meal and enough for a very large appetite.
My companion decided to start with "Hot and Sour Soup". It was spicy and tangy with pieces of mushroom, tofu and bean sprouts. For entree he had "Stir Fried Shrimp with Garlic and Butter". This was a delightful visual delight. The shrimp were lightly battered, similar to tempura, and were artfully arranged on a plate with vegetables of every color: tomato, cucumber, lettuce, red and green pepper.
I give this place a solid A for excellent food, service, and portion sizes for a quite reasonable price. Atmosphere is casual and family-friendly. Soft music plays in the background and you don't hear the busy street outside. This is delicious and healthy food that even those watching their weight can enjoy. Plus you'll always see your friends there.
