Galveston.com Review We arrived at Olympia fairly early on a Friday evening in August. It was not overly crowded when we arrived but was quite busy within a short while. We chose our table and sipped on very good Greek Cabernet from the wine menu (Greek and others) while we perused food choices. Love the atmosphere in the place, all manner of things Greek, including Greek TV!
My companion wanted it all, and ordered the "Olympia Platter" which includes a sampling of appetizers and entrees. The appetizers included a small Greek salad (crispy greens with feta cheese, olives and other veggies), hummus, dolma, vegetables, and tangy tzatziki sauce, all with fresh hot pita bread. Trust me, everything was delicious (of course I had to help taste everything). If I could change anything, it would be for the staff to bring more pita bread with the dish.
Then my "Gold Medal Greek Avocado Salad" arrived! This beauty is a huge serving of utterly fresh greens, cucumber and avocado slices, red bell pepper rings, sweet peppers, tomatoes and a huge slab of feta, topped at my request with five large perfectly grilled shrimp, and accompanied by fresh pita. I topped it with some homemade dressing and dug in. "Gold Medal" is definitely not a misnomer.
Next arrival was my friend's main course: generous servings of pastitsio and moussaka, a meatball, and a mound of gyro slices, served with his chosen side of eggplant with potatoes in a tomato-y sauce. And a garnish of tomato and onion. And pita. Did I mention it was a HUGE serving? Definitely enough for two and everything was delish. The pastitsio and moussaka were delicately flavored with a tender custardy top layer. At least half of this plate was carried home.
We also checked out the "Galaktoboureko" dessert, a thick custard with fillo topping. Can't be beat.
Do not miss this eatery. The menu has a wide variety of offerings, from soups, gyros and sandwiches to many traditional Greek dishes, and seafood and meat specialties. There are also "light portions" of several dishes. They definitely offer something for all palates and appetites, at a variety of prices. Olympia is family friendly with an easygoing and festive atmosphere.
