Established in 1981, Oceanwood Homes, Inc., has been building, remodeling, and repairing custom homes on the west end of Galveston island.
In those early days, owner Wayne Schlesinger began working on beach homes, and in the process, gained considerable insight into elevated structure construction. There were very few building codes and inspections in those days, so many of the homes needed constant repair and maintenance. Fortunately, there are new requirements in place now and construction materials and building practices have improved tremendously. Also, all structures must be engineered and inspected by a certified engineer. These codes increase the cost of building slightly, but are well worth it in the long run.
