Galveston.com Now On Amazon.com Kindle!

[June 18, 2009 - Galveston, TX] - In yet another industry first, Galveston.com & CompanyGalveston.com & Company is pleased to announce that visitors to Galveston Island now have an additional tool to assist in their travel planning.

Galveston.com, the official tourism website of Galveston, Texas, is now offering its tourism-related feeds and blogs to users of the Amazon.com Kindle, a portable reading device for books, periodicals, newspapers, blogs, and RSS feeds. The ultimate travel companion, Kindle weighs 10.2 ounces and holds more than 1,500 books.

Amazon.com - creator of the Kindle - is a Fortune 500 company based in Seattle, Washington, and is arguably the global leader in e-commerce. Since Jeff Bezos started Amazon.com in 1995, Amazon.com has significantly expanded its product offerings, international sites, and worldwide network of fulfillment and customer service centers. Today, Amazon.com offers everything from books and electronics to tennis rackets and diamond jewelry. It operates sites in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, Canada, and China (Joyo.com) and maintains over 25 fulfillment centers around the world which encompass more than 12 million square feet.

The Kindle Store has more than 300,000 books available, plus top newspapers, magazines, and blogs.

Which is precisely why the Kindle and Galveston.com is a match made in heaven. The idea came to Galveston.com & Company Vice President Jim Cordell recently on a tarmac in Houston.

"Last week while preparing to leave on a trip, I was reading USA Today on my Kindle," Cordell explains. "One of the paper's book reviews caught my eye, and I immediately switched over to the online Kindle store, found the book in the store, purchased and downloaded it - all in less than a minute. That's when it hit me - the same rule could be applied to tourists coming to Galveston!"

RSS (Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication, depending on who you ask) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many websites, blogs and other online publishers - like Galveston.com - syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whomever wants it. It allows feed readers to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites of interest.. Once readers subscribe to the site's RSS feed, the updated information is automatically sent as it is updated.

Galveston.com's feeds are updated several times each day, and are available via Galveston.com, feed readers across the web, and - now - the Amazon Kindle.

Galveston.com is a finalist for "Best Overall Website" in the 2009 American Business Awards.Hailed as “the business world’s own Oscars” (New York Post , April 27, 2005 ), The American Business Awards are the only national, all-encompassing awards program honoring great performances in business. Winners will be announced during the annual Awards Gala coming Monday, June 22nd, in New York City.
