[October 23, 2006] - The Winners of The 2006 W³ Awards were recently announced by the International Academy of the VisualW3 Awards Arts today. Receiving over 2,300 entries, The W³ Awards honors outstanding websites, web marketing, and web advertising created by some of the best interactive agencies, designers, and creators worldwide., the official website of Galveston Island, Texas was a Silver Award winner in two categories, one for Tourism, which included websites spotlighting destinations; and, second, for Travel, which included travel industry websites including airlines, hotels, resorts, and themeparks.

The W³ Awards is sanctioned and judged by The International Academy of the Visual Arts, an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from a "Who's Who" of acclaimed media, interactive, advertising, and marketing firms. IAVA members include executives from organizations such as Alloy, BRANDWEEK, Coach, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Estee Lauder, HBO, iNDELIBLE,, MTV, Omnicom, Polo Ralph Lauren, Refinery, Sotheby's Institute of Art , Victoria 's Secret, Wired, Yahoo!, and many others.
