Galveston On Board

Galveston is up for sale!  How would you like to own Moody Gardens, the Galveston Country Club, or the Grand 1894 Opera House?  The Galveston Bay Foundation (“GBF”) has created an “opoly”-style board game called Galveston On Board.  The game includes dozens of local businesses as well as photos and artwork of Galveston.  Everything from the start square to the bank tray to the tokens are represented by Galveston icons.  This unique game celebrates the great things, people, and places of Galveston and provides countless hours of fun for the entire family.

Proceeds from this effort will help benefit the Galveston Bay Foundation, a 19-year old nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve, protect, and enhance the natural resources of Galveston Bay for present users and for posterity.  Its balanced programs in conservation, education, advocacy, and research strive to ensure that Galveston Bay remains a beautiful and productive place for generations to come.  GBF is particularly interested in preserving and restoring wetlands across Galveston Island to maintain the beauty and value these areas bring to the Island.

Game boards are currently on sale at Randalls, Moody Gardens, the Treasure Trove, Jamaica Beach Hardware, and the UTMB Bookstore.  They are also available for sale online at Galveston.com.

GBF will have a “launch party” for game board sales downtown prior to Art Walk from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the evening of September 30, at the Artist’s Loft Gallery at Old Galveston Square.  The event is open to the public.  “Our launch party will give us an opportunity to have some fun and thank our sponsors and introduce the game boards to the public,” stated GBF President Bob Stokes.  Major sponsors include the Buzbee Law Firm, Sunset Cove, Pointe West, Harborwalk, Moody National Bank, Palms M&M, JSC Federal Credit Union and Moody Gardens, but there are many more Galveston businesses included.  “This has been a really fun project for us because we’ve had the support of so many different Galvestonians.  Because of that, the end product really captures the sense and spirit of Galveston and I think people will really enjoy it,” continued Bob Stokes.
