Galveston.com Review

For starters we selected the "Antipasto Italiano", a cold appetizer with all manner of flavors: thin slices of Italian sausage, ham, cheeses, marinated vegetables, etc. The cheeses were exceptional, especially the true Italian-style parmesan. This was enough for a meal in itself. Along with this we enjoyed an Italian Chianti. We decided to "taste test' the house Chianti, which we found to be even better, more robust and flavorful.

We saw pizzas all around us, but decided to save that for another time. I asked our helpful waitress what she would recommend, and she instantly mentioned the Seafood Fettuccine. I ordered it with Alfredo sauce on angel hair pasta. The sauce was creamy and not too heavy, and very well-flavored. Pasta was appropriately al dente. It was chock-full of shrimp, crawfish, and scallops. I didn't order a salad but my friend did, and praised the freshness of the lettuce and other vegetables, and the well-herbed dressing.

My faithful dining companion had to try the "Liam Ribeye Steak", with peppercorn sauce and portabella mushrooms in port wine. The steak was tender throughout and prepared exactly to his request. The sauce was delicious; as were the mushroom slices (they were a bit chewy, though).

Any fine Italian meal must include Tiramisu for dessert. Heavenly! Very creamy, fresh, ‘homemade". A perfect end to the meal.

Mario's has done a great job with their new dining room, and their extensive menu and excellent preparation does the place justice. On this occasion they certainly proved they can handle a very large crowd on short notice. This is a great family restaurant and the food is reasonably priced and great tasting. You will enjoy dining here!
