Photo Brown-bagging takes a big step up when Laura Hurt and Dayatra Myers are making lunches. At their new Lunchbox Café in downtown Galveston, ready-made sandwiches and salads come in Greek, Thai and southwestern varieties, as well as healthy twists on old favorites like reubens, egg salad and tuna. The transplanted Houstonians have their own take on the Southern sandwich favorite, pimiento cheese, with fresh herbs.

“We serve the kinds of things we like to eat,” Myers said. “We’re really emphasizing fresh ingredients in everything we serve.”

Tucked in the historic Jockusch Building at 204 21st Street, the Lunchbox opens at 10 a.m. to start the day with muffins, lox and bagels and granola. The lunch items, including side orders of salads, fresh fruit and brownies, are available until 4 p.m.

Call or fax orders at 409-770-0044.

TJ9/5/2008 12:42:00 PMI popped in this delightful shop today intending to get a Harvest Turkey Sandwich recommended by a friend. The chalk board special caught my eye, a Vietnamese sandwich dressed the traditional way with a wonderful twist and your choice of protein. I chose roast beef and it was unbelievably delicious!! Although I would have loved to devour the entire sandwich, It was SOOO GOOOD I had to save half to share with my daughter. Let's keep these ladies in business Galveston!
