GALVESTON'S 11th ANNUAL HISTORIC DOWNTOWN Downtown Galveston is quickly becoming the haute spot for people looking for unique residential living. The 11th Annual Historic Downtown Galveston Lofts Tour, October 4 through 5, benefiting the preservation of Galveston's Historical Downtown, introduces eight of these special living spaces and the fascinating people who live there. From 10am to 5pm both days, real estate enthusiasts and those who just like peeking inside someone's home can experience life downtown through those that live it daily. From a gourmet chef whose dining room is inside a vault to a dedicated environmentalist whose flooring is made from recycled commodes, the Lofts Tour takes spectators on a tour of the beautiful, the practical and the politically correct. The Thompson Building, this year's signature building, is a dream loft located in the most recently renovated building on The Strand. Totally refurbished by the George Mitchell Family, these lofts have features sure to capture the heart. The "Work in Progress" this year is the 1920 Marion Building located at 2208 Postoffice Street. Although slated for completion in late 2008, the building with its twenty new lofts will be open for tours. The Historic Downtown Galveston Partnership hosts this event to display the incomparable lofts with spectacular views only an Island can offer. Gracious turn of the century buildings give Galveston the edge on loft living. Honoring Galveston's legendary history, the Lofts Tour promotes a Downtown lifestyle. New for 2008, and included in your Lofts Tour ticket, is a Bon Voyage cocktail party at Fisherman's Wharf at Pier 22. Come be a part of the fabulous night life in Downtown Galveston and register to win a FREE cruise. Throughout the Lofts Tour or for the rest of the weekend take the opportunity to experience Downtown living. Visit the local Saturday morning Farmers Market, take in a Downtown museum or an art gallery, and shop for antiques, clothing and gifts on the Strand, Mechanic and Postoffice Streets. Enjoy a relaxing dinner at one of the many fine dining or casual restaurants, and then take in a free movie at Saengerfest Park, all local assets to Downtown life. Remember Downtown Galveston is "walking and bicycle" friendly, so park the car and see it all on foot. Don't stand on the sidewalk and wonder what's inside, purchase Lofts Tour tickets online at www.galveston.com/loftstour or at Krogers, and come inside for the perfect view. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the event. For more information visit www.galveston.com/loftstour or call 1-888-939-8680. |
