One of the great things about running, compared to other sports like cycling, is how little equipment is required — a good pair of shoes is almost all that’s required.
But, since the shoes are doing all the work, it’s critical to have the right ones.
A shoe that doesn’t offer enough support, or doesn’t correct a foot’s tendency to roll inward, can lead to nagging injuries.
Local runners can now guarantee a perfect fit with Fit to Run, now open in downtown Galveston.
The shop carreis four brands of shoes: Asics, Brooks, Saucony and Mizuno.
The staff at Fit to Run is careful to make sure people try shoes out standing, squatting and walking. They even check the shape of your foot with the wet-foot test.
The wet-foot test involves getting the sole of the foot wet, then standing on paper to see the shape of the wet footprint.
A thin print indicates a high arch, while a thick, less differentiated print is a sign of a flatter foot in need of more arch support.
