
Galveston Island Kicks Off the New Year
Galveston Island to Kick Off 2012 Calendar with Galveston Restaurant Week, Yaga’s Chili Quest & Beerfest, Civil War Reenactment and Other Special Events
[December 13, 2011] - Galveston Island will kick off the new year with a plethora of special events worth marking the calendar for. From the inaugural Galveston Restaurant Week to Civil War Reenactments and historical tours, the island will be bustling with foodies, history buffs and other visitors looking to explore the island’s unique options at the start of the year.
Here’s a look at what will be happening in January.
Galveston Restaurant Week
The inaugural Galveston Restaurant Week will bring the island’s vibrant food scene to life for one week, Jan. 15-21, when more than 25 of Galveston’s finest restaurants show off their tastiest dishes. With a specialty in seafood, Galveston’s eateries will prepare special menus and dishes for Restaurant Week, allowing participants to choose from a variety of price points. Civil War Battle of Galveston Reenactment
January 13-15, the Galveston Historical Foundation will mark the 149th anniversary of the most important military event in Galveston’s history: the Jan. 1, 1863 Civil War Battle of Galveston. Commemorative events will take place in Galveston’s historic downtown and include a battle re-enactment, numerous commemorative battle tours, living history encampments and a photography demonstration. Yaga’s Chili Quest & Beerfest
The next weekend, Galveston Restaurant Week concludes when Yaga’s’ Entertainment hosts its annual Chili Quest & Beerfest Jan. 20-22 in the island’s historic downtown district. The festival will bring thousands of visitors to The Strand to participate in a chili competition, beer tasting, 5K run/walk, a washer tournament, and a Strand walkabout. Mardi Gras! Galveston, Feb. 10-21
After all the eating is done, it will be time to party when Mardi Gras! Galveston returns in February with 5 masked balls, 19 balcony parties, 24 parades, and 26 concerts, including a headline performance from Hot Chelle Rae – named New Artist of the Year at the 2011 American Music Awards.
