Galveston Island Kicks Off the New Year
Galveston Island to Kick Off 2012 Calendar with Galveston Restaurant Week, Yaga’s Chili Quest & Beerfest, Civil War Reenactment and Other Special Events

[December 13, 2011] - Galveston Island will kick off the new year with a plethora of special events worth marking the calendar for. Here’s a look at what will be happening in January.

Galveston Restaurant Week
The inaugural Galveston Restaurant Week will bring the island’s vibrant food scene to life for one week, Jan. 15-21, when more than 25 of Galveston’s finest restaurants show off their tastiest dishes. With a specialty in seafood, Galveston’s eateries will prepare special menus and dishes for Restaurant Week, allowing participants to choose from a variety of price points. Civil War Battle of Galveston Reenactment
January 13-15, the Galveston Historical Foundation will mark the 149th anniversary of the most important military event in Galveston’s history: the Jan. 1, 1863 Civil War Battle of Galveston. Commemorative events will take place in Galveston’s historic downtown and include a battle re-enactment, numerous commemorative battle tours, living history encampments and a photography demonstration. Yaga’s Chili Quest & Beerfest
The next weekend, Galveston Restaurant Week concludes when Yaga’s’ Entertainment hosts its annual Chili Quest & Beerfest Jan. 20-22 in the island’s historic downtown district. The festival will bring thousands of visitors to The Strand to participate in a chili competition, beer tasting, 5K run/walk, a washer tournament, and a Strand walkabout.
