Dellanera RV Park Reopens Nearly 3 Years after Hurricane Ike
Galveston Beach Park Rebounds from $6M in Ike Damages
with Updated RV Sites, New Pavilion
[July 13, 2011] - Galveston Island’s Dellanera RV Park has reopened for business nearly three years after Hurricane Ike caused approximately $6 million in damages. The beach park, which opened in June, now has completely updated RV sites and a new pavilion.
“This is a great accomplishment for Galveston tourism,” said Mario Rabago, interim executive director for the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees. “All of the sites are updated and can handle today’s huge RVs. There is also plenty of beachfront there for folks to enjoy. We are very pleased to see the park full again.”
The 65 new sites offer wider RV spaces to accommodate modern, expandable RV trailers and motor homes. Each site features water and sewer utilities, electrical service, and a private picnic table and barbecue pit. Dellanera, which is located along 1,000 feet of sandy beach, also offers wireless internet for guests.
The park’s new pavilion offers showers, laundry facilities, a gift shop, umbrella chair rentals, and a recreation room.
The Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees, which operates the park, is currently working on plans to begin a beach nourishment and dune structure project at Dellanera to be completed this fall and winter due to summer crowds. The board also expects a children’s playground to be completed at the park this fall.
Dellanera RV Park is located on FM 3005 at 7 Mile Road in Galveston on the Gulf of Mexico. Reservations are currently being accepted at the park.
