Galveston To Host Nation's Largest Jump Rope Competition This Week
USA Jump Rope Nationals to Kick-off Wednesday With More Than 900 Competitors

[June 20, 2011] - Galveston will host the nation's largest jump rope competition this week as more than 900 competitors gather at the Galveston Island Convention Center for the U.S. National Jump Rope Championship June 22-26.

The event will kick off Wednesday with participants coming from as far as Alaska and Hawaii to compete in speed and freestyle jump rope events. On Sunday, the U.S. All-Star Jump Rope Team will perform with a special appearance by members of the Saltare Dance Crew that was featured as a top team on MTV's America's Best Dance Crew.

The five-day event is open to the public. Day passes can be purchased at the door for $8 while full tournament passes can be purchased for $35.

The tournament is organized by USA Jump Rope, which is the national governing body for the sport of jump rope in the United States. Visit www.usajumprope.org for more information.

Schedule:

  • June 22: Lone Star Classic Jump Rope Tournament (14 years old and younger)
  • June 23-25: U.S. National Jump Rope Age Division qualifier (youth and adults). This tournament qualifies speed and freestyle competitors to compete at the Grand Nationals on June 26.
  • June 26: Grand Nationals (youth and adults). This event features the top 12 jumpers from each age event plus the gold medalist from each age group.
