
Galveston Island to Host Fireworks & Parade for 4th of July
It's Island Time!
[June 6, 2012] - If you’re looking for a change of scenery to celebrate Independence Day, Galveston Island is just the place to make your holiday a true get-a-way. From fireworks over the beach to a traditional hometown parade, Galveston will offer plenty of excitement for the 4th of July.
On the evening of July 4, Galveston Island will celebrate its annual Independence Day parade featuring a procession of floats, decorated military vehicles and performers. The parade will kick off at 7:30 p.m. with a procession on Seawall Boulevard from 28th Street to 45th Street.
After the parade, the island will host a 20-minute fireworks show over the Gulf of Mexico at 37th Street and Seawall Boulevard. The beachfront fireworks display – sponsored by the Galveston Park Board of Trustees – will begin at 9:15 p.m.
If you’re in town for the 4th of July, be sure to also check out The Curt Miller Magic & Comedy Show at the Moody Gardens Hotel. Magic, comedy and Las Vegas-style illusions will entertain you at this exciting show being offered at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. daily July 2 through July 10. Concerts and Fireworks at Moody Gardens
Starting the fun early, Moody Gardens will hold its Bands on the Sand concert series Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30. Each concert will be followed by a fireworks display over Offatts Bayou. Bands on the Sand concerts are held from 6- 10 p.m. at Moody Gardens’ Palm Beach. The cost is $12 per person. Visit www.moodygardens.org for more information.
Movie Night on the Strand
On Saturday, July 7, grab your chairs and blankets, and head to downtown Galveston for Movie Night on The Strand. This month’s event will feature a free showing of the film Julie & Julia. The show starts at dusk at Saengerfest Park, located at the corner of 23rd and Strand streets.
Glen Campbell Goodbye Tour
As a special treat on July 8, Glen Campbell – whose heart-felt rendition of the song “Galveston” holds a special place in the hearts of Texans – will bring his Goodbye Tour to The Grand 1894 Opera House for a one-night performance in downtown Galveston. Celebrate the life and music of this multi-platinum hit-maker and enjoy a variety of song favorites. The show begins at 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.thegrand.com.
