New "Clean Beaches" Campaign to Kick Off on Galveston Island
Galveston Island Park Board & CVB Promotes Recycling; Discourages Litter

[May 27, 2011] - The Park Board of Trustees and the Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau are thrilled to introduce Galveston Island’s new “clean beaches” campaign, which will promote recycling and discourage litter on Galveston Island’s beaches beginning this summer. Overall, the campaign will serve as a platform to continue our work to conserve the island’s natural beauty for all to enjoy.

The campaign includes a great new logo, featuring a turtle with the Park Board's logo in the center. The words "Clean. Green. Pristine. Galveston Island Beaches" wrap around the turtle design. This cool new logo will soon be seen on vehicles, garbage cans, recycling bins and more throughout the island.

For the anti-litter portion of the campaign, the messaging "In the can, not the sand" will accompany the new logo. The messaging will be presented in both English and Spanish.

This summer, a new recycling pilot project will be launched at Stewart Beach as well. We hope to have recycling available at all beach parks next summer.

This campaign coming from the Park Board highlights the board’s role as a leader in sustainability and preservation. Not only is the board being pro-active about keeping our beaches clean, it is also already involved in programs that prevent erosion on our beaches, and help protect endangered turtles, birds and mammals that call our beaches home. Even the Park Board’s office building will soon be the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building in downtown Galveston.

This summer, we believe the new clean beaches campaign will allow the board to continue to make a difference. Want our employees and visitors to take ownership of what makes Galveston Island so special by doing their part to preserve it.

We hope you like the new logo and clean beaches concept as much as we do!

Sincerely,
Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees
