Sail, Surf, Fish, or Relax on Galveston Island's 32 Miles of Sun-Drenched Beaches

Galveston Island is widely known for its 32 miles of beautiful Gulf beaches. To ensure the safety of visitors and encourage more families to frequent Galveston Island beaches, the City of Galveston and the Galveston Park Board of Trustees have cooperatively banned alcohol consumption on public beaches and the Seawall, with the exception of licensed concession areas.

Stewart Beach Park, 6th and Seawall Boulevard, is Galveston's premier family beach park. The Park Board sponsors family-oriented events, such as volleyball tournaments, sandcastle competitions and concerts throughout the summer season.

Another family beach is Dellanera RV Park, FM 3005 at 7 Mile Road (west end of the Seawall). Enjoy a casual stroll along 1,000 feet of sparkling sandy beaches at your beachfront "home-away-from-home."

Galveston's East Beach (also called R.A. Apffel Park), Seawall and Boddeker Drive, features Big Reef Nature Park for nature enthusiasts. The Park has an outdoor pavilion with a snack bar, gift shop, showers, game room and volleyball courts. Live music, concerts, and an outdoor bar add to the entertainment most weekends during the summer. Alcohol consumption is allowed at this beach park, within legal limitations.

Seawolf Park, Pelican Island via Seawolf Parkway (51st Street), was built on an immigration station site and offers a three-story pavilion with a view of Galveston harbor, picnic sites, a playground area and a fishing pier. A World War II submarine (the USS Cavalla) a destroyer escort (the USS Stewart), and other military hardware are on display and open for tours. The naval display is currently undergoing a major restoration effort.

The Galveston County Beach Pocket Park #1 is located on 7 1/2 Mile Road and Pocket Park #3 is located on 11 Mile Road. Each park includes a pavilion, with restrooms and showers, a concession stand and beach umbrella rentals.

Campers will enjoy the Galveston Island State Park, FM 3005, which features picnic tables, barbecue pits, and water and electrical hook-ups on all sites. The park is open year-round.
