[ March 21, 2012 ] - & Company, creator of the official website of Galveston Island Marketing and Tourism, is pleased to announce a sixth media channel for Galveston tourism information, expanding its current social media presence.

The new channel is on Pinterest, a social networking site that allows users to create online image collages, then quickly and easily share those collages - called “pinboards”- with other Pinterest users.

There are currently over 10 million registered users on Pinterest, which has seen its daily users increase by 145% since the beginning of 2012. In fact, Pinterest received more than 103 million visits in February, according to Experian Hitwise. It's currently the third most popular social networking site behind Facebook and Twitter in the United States - and interest is generating more referral traffic to websites than Youtube, Google+ and LinkedIn...combined! & Company is one of the first organizations in the United States to utilize the site to primarily promote tourism.

Along with social media channels on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Foursquare, and YouTube, the new Pinterest Channel will allow the company to engage with visitors and tourists by providing instantaneous access to relevant and useful information about life on the Island. & Company maintains each of the pages.

"Without question, the Digital Age is dramatically changing the way would-be visitors to the Island get their tourism information," said Jim Cordell, & Company's Vice-President said. "And now that we can offer that information in a dazzling format such as Pinterest, it's another venue for us to extend Galveston Island's - and's - presence on the web." & Company President & CEO Lee Roane is equally excited about the implications of another aspect of's Pinterest presence: Vacation Rentals.

"Since photographs are proven to inspire and evoke emotion, Pinterest is a perfect complement for travel planning," Roane says. "That's why we're offering all our vacation rental customers placement on both AND in a special section on our Pinterest site. Those homes are then shareable to additional social media venues including Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter, and more. The potential audience is nothing short of staggering."'s Vacation Rental program is open to private homeowners and all Island vacation rental companies interested in tapping into the website's daily 20,000 visitors, greatly increasing exposure. Visitors to Galveston Island who wish to book vacation rentals may view inventory by clicking here.
